USA, 2019. Dir: Cheryl Haines. 76 min. VOSE.

The origin of the film directed by Cheryl Haines can be found in the exhibition she organised at the Alcatraz Prison. With the name ‘Large: Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz’, the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei claimed the figure of numerous dissidents who were then imprisoned in different parts of the world because of their political ideas. This new documentary about Ai Weiwei explores his beginnings, his own problems with the Chinese authorities and the impact that simple postcards can have in raising awareness, empathising with prisoners of conscience and not remaining unmoved by attacks on human rights.
